Naturally sustainable: the entire life cycle of a Christian Fischbacher product makes the difference.

The highest material quality, care instructions, repair options and the durability of our textiles stand in direct contrast to the fast consumption of the fast fashion world. Christian Fischbacher stands for an understanding of luxury built on durability, comfort and appreciation. Fewer products, but better ones: for people and the environment.

The high price of fast fashion

As a textile producer, Christian Fischbacher cannot help but take a particularly critical look at fast fashion.

In recent years, ultra-fast fashion has replaced fast fashion. Until a few years ago, trends still changed every few months; today, a new fashion trend emerges every few weeks. Asian suppliers are flooding the market with more textiles than humanity could ever wear. According to Greenpeace, every second air freight shipment from China is full of clothing.

The quality of these items is so poor that they often do not even last a single season. More and more often, the cheapest items, costing only a few francs, are designed to be worn once. They no longer survive a single wash. This development is worrying in many respects.

  • Dumping prices for textiles do not allow for fair pay. The health of textile workers is put at risk for a pittance, and their working and living conditions are often catastrophic. Yet one in six people worldwide is employed directly or indirectly in the textile industry. 80 per cent of the people working in the fashion industry’s processing and garment factories are women. They are particularly hard hit by poor working conditions.
  • Clothing production is responsible for ten per cent of global CO₂ emissions.
  • As early as 2020, the textile sector was the third-largest contributor worldwide to water pollution and land use.
  • Every time textiles made of polyester (a synthetic material used for a large proportion of cheap textiles) are washed, microplastics are released that can enter the food chain.

Disturbing figures

Every year, 150 billion items of clothing are produced. On average, every person in Switzerland throws away 6.3 kg of clothing per year. Each year, 92 million tonnes of textile waste end up in landfills and incinerators. At the same time, the fashion industry generates around CHF 1.44 trillion in revenue per year. That is around 1.6% of global GDP.

Sustainability in the textile industry as a conscious choice

For Christian Fischbacher, sustainability in the textile industry means more than using environmentally friendly materials. The entire life cycle of a product determines its ecological footprint. And especially in comparison with short-lived fast fashion textiles, it becomes clear what an immense difference quality makes for us as people and for our planet.

While quickly and cheaply produced textiles are geared towards short-term trends, high volumes and correspondingly rapid product turnover, Christian Fischbacher follows the opposite approach: high-quality materials, careful craftsmanship, timeless design and products that bring joy and are used for many years.

These have always been our values. This attitude is not a short-lived trend, but a matter of conviction and of respect for people and the environment.

Sustainability begins long before production

The German Federal Environment Ministry points out that the first step towards using textiles responsibly is avoiding waste. Immediately after that, repair, reuse and ultimately the possibility of recycling should be considered as early as the design stage of a product.

Repairability

At Christian Fischbacher, we make sure during product development that individual wear parts such as zips, buttons or ties can be replaced.

Generous seam allowances also make repairs and small alterations possible. They can help to extend the service life of a product.

Information on ideal care

In addition, Christian Fischbacher customers receive care and usage recommendations to minimise wear and preserve the quality of the textiles for as long as possible.

Recyclability

Even with the best care, the finest bed linen eventually reaches the end of its life. That is why Christian Fischbacher considers later recyclability when selecting the materials it uses.

Wherever product and quality permit, largely single-material fabrics are preferred. Reducing the number of different material components makes later recycling easier. In this way, we already consider during development what happens to a textile product at the end of its useful life. Our responsibility does not end at the point of sale.

Resource-saving production techniques and made-to-measure manufacturing

For printed textiles, Christian Fischbacher relies on digital printing processes that allow water, dye and energy to be used more efficiently than conventional screen printing. At the same time, digital printing enables precise reproduction of our sophisticated designs and meets our high standards of design quality as well as those of resource conservation.

Thanks to our made-to-measure products, we can respond precisely to our customers’ actual needs. Products are tailored to individual requirements and offer maximum flexibility. This means that duvets and beds with unusual dimensions can also continue to be used by our customers without restriction.

Longevity through the use of first-class materials

Extra-long-staple cotton is one of our favourite materials. Its particularly long fibres make possible the fine, smooth and at the same time durable fabrics you are used to from our bed linen. It withstands many washes without losing any of its comfort or beauty.

Respectful treatment of people and the environment

Not only the “what” but also the “how” matters to us.

Christian Fischbacher works mainly with European suppliers. Short distances, direct exchange and long-term partnerships with selected producers allow us to ensure that fair working conditions prevail and standards are met throughout our production chain. This close collaboration is an essential part of our commitment to quality, enabling us to maintain and further develop high standards in materials, workmanship and product quality over many years.

LIENZO: naturally durable

LIENZO stands for a quality that is designed not for the moment but for many years. Made from 100% finest European linen, the bed linen consists entirely of a renewable, natural material. Its characteristic dry handle and chalky colour nuances underline the original character of linen.

It is precisely its durability that makes linen a material that reflects our understanding of conscious consumption. LIENZO even improves in quality over time: with every wash, the fabric becomes softer and more comfortable while retaining its natural appeal. The result is bed linen that is not intended for one season, but accompanies you for many years and develops its very own character over time.
